Science plays a key role in cultural heritage, from developing new analytical techniques for studying the art, to investigating new ways of preserving the materials for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following on from the 2014 title Science and Art: The Painted Surface, this book consists of a series of chapters written together by scientists, art historians, conservators, curators and artists dedicated to conservation, execution techniques, languages and conceptual topics. Science and Art: The Contemporary Painted Surface largely covers execution techniques, material\u2019s conservation and languages of artists, representative of twelve different countries, all protagonists of the development of innovative significant techniques and methodologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book opens with a focus on widely historicized artists, such as Jackson Pollock, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Baj, Piero Manzoni and Joseph Albers. Its core is dedicated to the work of major worldwide renowned living artists, in a perspective that, while considering the Sixties as the historical starting point of contemporaneity, does not neglect to offer a view on the work done in the immediately preceding years. Several interviews with artists are included. Final chapters are dedicated to contemporary design, net art, and painted surfaces in contemporary architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presented in an easily readable form for a large audience, the book guides readers into new areas uncovered by the link between science and art, and will be of interest to artists, art historians and curators, as well as those who appreciate art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resumo<br\/>Ci\u00eancia e Arte est\u00e3o cada vez mais interconectadas nas atividades de estudo e conserva\u00e7\u00e3o de bens culturais. As ci\u00eancias exercem um papel chave no patrim\u00f4nio cultural, seja a partir do desenvolvimento de novas t\u00e9cnicas anal\u00edticas para o estudo das artes ou para a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o de novas formas de preserva\u00e7\u00e3o de materiais para o futuro. <br\/>Science and Art: The Contemporary Surface cobre em grande amplitude t\u00e9cnicas de execu\u00e7\u00e3o, conserva\u00e7\u00e3o de materiais e linguagens dos artistas, estes representativos de doze pa\u00edses diversos, todos protagonistas do desenvolvimento de t\u00e9cnicas e metodologias inovativas e substancialmente importantes.<br\/>Na sequ\u00eancia do t\u00edtulo j\u00e1 publicado Science andArt: The Painted Surface, o presente volume consiste de uma s\u00e9rie de cap\u00edtulos escritos conjuntamente por cientistas, historiadores da arte, conservadores, curadores e artistas dedicados \u00e0 conserva\u00e7\u00e3o, t\u00e9cnicas construtivas, linguagens e t\u00f3picos conceituais. <br\/>O livro abre com o foco em artistas mundialmente reconhecidos pela hist\u00f3ria da arte, como Jackson Pollock, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Bai, Piero Manzoni e Joseph Albers. O corpo do livro \u00e9 dedicado aos trabalhos de artistas vivos e mundialmente reconhecidos, em uma perspectiva de que, ao considerar os anos sessenta como o ponto de partida da contemporaneidade, n\u00e3o negligencia de oferecer uma vis\u00e3o do trabalho produzido nos anos precedentes. Diversas entrevistas com artistas est\u00e3o inclu\u00eddas.
